English and Foreign Language University (EFLU)

The Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) North-East Campus opened its doors in 1973, one year following Meghalaya's independence. This campus was established to serve the local community's language and research requirements while also offering top-notch teacher preparation.

The Central Institute of English (CIE), established in 1958, was the brainchild of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's first prime minister, who saw the need for a facility to provide teachers with high-quality English language instruction. This Campus has also extended its avenues to add to and strengthen its current offerings. The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), as it is currently named after being granted Central University status in 2007 by an Act of Parliament, maintains that ambition.

For the even semester, classes normally start in February, while for the odd semester, they start in August. Exams based on semesters are typically administered in June for even semesters and in December for odd semesters.

EFLU Courses offered

The university offers courses in English literature and English language education at the BA, MA, and PhD levels. It also offers courses in English/Linguistics/Mass Communication and Journalism, Certificate, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma programs in French, Russian, German, and Spanish.

EFLU Admission

Admission to undergraduate programs is granted based on CUET UG results, whereas admission to graduate programs is granted based on CUET PG scores.

EFLU Placement

The major recruiting firms that come each year to find students for all courses are Amazon, Entrayn, and Flipkart. It is expected of most students to do at least one internship while on vacation. Businesses provide internships and positions to students who may decide to stick with their careers in that field.
