However, this coveted professional education in medical education is the most expensive and of the longest in duration.

The problem faced by students of Meghalaya is that the number of medical colleges in the state is too low compared to the ever increasing demand for the study of medical courses. The state is only home to two best medical colleges and hospitals in northeast, viz. North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Bissau College etc. The colleges are finding it difficult to accommodate more and more students. The need for the establishment of new medical colleges in Meghalaya has been recognized and is being worked upon by the Govt. of Meghalaya.

To get admission into UG medical courses (MBBS/BDS) candidates are required to appear for NEET-UG entrance examination.
